Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Wednesday April 15, 2026 about 01:30hrs, on Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara, involving motor car PAJ 6755, driven by Bernard North, a 23-year-old male of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, (deceased) and motor pickup GAJ 761, driven by a 32-year-old male of Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, with a 33-year-old female occupant of Bangkok, Thailand.
Initial enquiries revealed that motor car PAJ 6755 was proceeding east along the northern side of the road at an alleged fast rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control, ended up on the southern side of the road and collided with the right-side front portion of motor pickup GAJ 761, which was proceeding west along the southern side of the road.
As a result of the collision, the driver of motor car PAJ 6755, along with the driver and occupant of motor pickup GAJ 761, received injuries about their bodies and were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in unconscious and conscious conditions, respectively, where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty.
The driver of motor car PAJ 6755 was pronounced dead on arrival, while the driver and occupant of motor pickup GAJ 761 were treated for injuries sustained.
The body of the deceased is at Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of motor pickup GAJ 761 revealed no trace of alcohol in his breath.
CCTV footage was seen and will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Investigations are ongoing.
