$22M worth of ganja destroyed during police operation in Upper Demerara River

Police ranks, led by a Gazetted Officer, conducted a cannabis eradication exercise at Yaruni Bend, Linden, in the Upper Demerara River area, between 05:30hrs and 16:36hrs on Thursday September 10, 2026.
During the exercise, two cannabis farms measuring a combined eight acres were located, on which approximately fifty-three thousand (53,000) suspected cannabis plants were discovered. The plants ranged between two and six feet in height.

Ranks also discovered two makeshift camps and two drying areas containing a combined total of 10 pounds of dried cannabis.

The suspected cannabis plants, dried cannabis, makeshift camps and drying areas were all destroyed by fire.

The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is $22,038,728.

No arrests were made. Investigations continue.
