President Dr Irfaan Ali is poised to begin a second term in office as the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is heading for a resounding electoral victory.
Guyanese went to the polls on Monday for the 2025 General and Regional Elections, and while the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has yet to officially declare the results, INews Guyana reports that the PPP/C is currently leading in at least seven of the country’s ten administrative regions.
These include Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9. This would be the first time in the country’s history that the PPP/C has gained control of Region Four – the largest voting district and home of the capital city, Georgetown.
This is based on the Statements of Poll (SOPs) so far released on GECOM’s website.
Projections are that the PPP/C will increase its majority in the National Assembly.
The country’s main political opposition, the Peoples National Congress (PNC)-led A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), has lost significant support in its strongholds including Region 4 and 10.
The PPP/C ran an election campaign based on track record and the delivery of promises kept to the electorate.
