[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty-year-old Mdlala Richmond of Lot 505 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 11, 2015 charged with the possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
She made her appearance before Magistrate Zameena Ali and pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on September 09 at Ogle International Airport, East Coast of Demerara, she had in her possession 4.1 kilogrammes of marijuana.
According to the prosecution, on the day in question at around 20:50 hrs, Richmond was an outgoing passenger on a Liat flight destined to Barbados when she was observed by police attached to the narcotics branch acting in a suspicious manner and appeared to be in a nervous state.
As the defendant checked in her laptop computer bag, a search was carried out and four packets of the illicit substance were found. She was subsequently, arrested and escorted to the Criminal Investigations Department. Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to October 14.
