Residents of the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Housing Development on the East Coast of Demerara can expect major improvements to their road network as the government moves ahead with a $1 billion road upgrade programme.

They will have more than 5,500 metres of roads upgraded, with over 23 contractors engaged across 33 lots.

Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, said on the ministry’s page on Friday that the rapidly expanding housing development has experienced increased pressure on its road network due to ongoing construction activities and the growing number of residents moving into the area.

According to Minister Croal, more work on the main access road is expected to commence within days, while contractors have already started grading sections of the road network.

Minister Croal also acknowledged concerns about road conditions and assured them that the government remains committed to improving infrastructure throughout the housing scheme.

He urged residents to be patient as construction progresses, noting that heavy equipment and trucks servicing ongoing housing developments contribute to the road’s wear and tear.

The road upgrades form part of the government’s continued investment in developing modern and accessible housing communities across the country. [DPI]
