Nineteen Junior Officers, including three from regional partner militaries, have commenced training on the Junior Command and Staff Course Number Thirty-Four (JCSC #34).

The cohort comprises sixteen Guyana Defence Force officers, two from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, and one from the Saint Kitts and Nevis Defence Force.

This twelve-week programme is designed to prepare officers to serve effectively as junior commanders and junior staff officers across the full spectrum of military operations. It aims to enhance participants’ leadership capabilities, operational planning skills and professional competence to meet the demands of modern military service.

The course’s curriculum covers a broad range of subjects, including military operations, operational staff procedures, leadership, military law, management, planning and decision-making.

Colonel Kenlloyd Roberts, MSM, Colonel General Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, officially opened the course. In his opening remarks, he emphasised the importance of professional military education in developing capable and adaptable leaders. He encouraged the officers to approach the training with commitment and discipline while taking full advantage of the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, strengthen their leadership abilities and enhance their effectiveness as future commanders and staff officers.

The participation of officers from regional partner forces also adds an important dimension to the course, providing opportunities for professional exchange and the sharing of military experience. Through initiatives such as the JCSC, the Guyana Defence Force continues to invest in professional military development while strengthening its regional defence cooperation.
