Vagrant stabbed to death after allegedly calling suspect “jackass”

A vagrant was stabbed to death on Tuesday evening in the vicinity of Leopold and Cross Streets, Werk En Rust, Georgetown, after he reportedly referred to the suspect as a “jackass.”

The dead man has been identified as 56-year-old Michael Dazzell, while the suspect, who is still on the run, goes by the alias “Devon or Six.”

Police stated that on the day in question, at about 19:00h, the vagrant was standing in the alleyway on the eastern side of Cross Street when he was heard calling the suspect, who was passing on a black pedal cycle, a “jackass”.

In retaliation, the suspect reportedly turned around, and an altercation ensued between them.

In the midst of the brawl, the suspect reportedly whipped out a pair of scissors from his waistband and stabbed the victim several times about his body.

In an attempt to escape, the injured man reportedly ran a short distance but collapsed while the suspect mounted his pedal cycle and fled the scene. Dazzell, nevertheless, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMTs.

Upon examination, stab wounds were found on his left upper chest, right lower abdomen, and left armpit. An abrasion was also observed on the palm of his right hand.

However, police, acting on information received, went to an apartment building at Durban and Cross Street, Georgetown, where contacts were made with a 29-year-old female believed to be the girlfriend of the suspect.

She was subsequently questioned and denied having knowledge of his whereabouts. During a search of the apartment, blue three-quarter pants with what appeared to be bloodstains were found on the bed.

Further, one black -handled pair of scissors with bloodstains on the blades was found in one of the pants’ pockets. In addition, a black pedal cycle, suspected to be the one used by the suspect, was also found in the apartment.

Investigations are ongoing.
