Tuschen labourer chopped to death

Police in Regional Division # 3 are investigating an alleged murder which occurred between Sunday March 8, 2026 about 20:30hrs and Monday March 9, 2026 about 06:00hrs at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, resulting in the death of Herbert Hartman, 29, a labourer of Tuschen New Scheme, East Bank Essequibo.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and the suspect, a 23-year-old construction worker of Tuschen Housing Scheme, are known to each other.

Enquiries further disclosed that the men were earlier at a worksite in the area where they were allegedly imbibing alcohol when an argument reportedly ensued between them, during which the suspect allegedly threatened the deceased before leaving the location.

It is alleged that the suspect later went to the deceased’s residence armed with a cutlass where an altercation occurred.

On Monday March 9, 2026 about 06:00hrs, the deceased was discovered lying motionless in a pool of blood at his residence with several chop wounds about his body.

The body was escorted to the DeKinderen Regional Hospital where it was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. It was subsequently taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Police later contacted the suspect who was arrested and remains in police custody assisting with investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.
