[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – five – year old Police Constable, Wayne Charles, accused of the unlawful wounding of a woman while on duty, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman on November 16, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that Charles on April 22, 2015 at Lot 31 Albouys Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Shaquina Anderson, so as to cause actual grivous bodily harm.
The Prosecution informed the court that on day in question, the accused was on duty in the company of another Police Officer, when they went to the home of Anderson and asked to use her washroom.
It was noted that while Charles was in the process of handing over his weapon to his colleague, his gun went off with a bullet hitting Anderson in the abdomen.
The two officers subsequently rushed the injured woman to a city hospital where she received urgent medical attention. Bail was granted in the sum of $150,000 and he is scheduled to make his next court appearance on November 30.
