A fisherman from Parika, East Bank Essequibo, who reportedly stabbed his reputed wife several times and wounded her mother during an altercation last night, has ingested a poisonous substance and is presently under police guard at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
INews understands that 37-year old Bhawanie Harrinarine is in a critical condition at the moment.
According to reports, the couple had separated sometime ago, but Harrinarine would often visit the woman at her parents’ Greenwhich Park home. Thursday evening was one of such visits; however it took a turn for the worse when the two ended up in an argument.
INews was told that during the argument, the fisherman allegedly stabbed his wife and her mother. He then fled the scene and consumed the poisonous substance.
Relatives related that earlier on Wednesday, they saw the man with the poison but had not realised his intentions was to consume it. The woman and her mother are now admitted patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital, however the seriousness of their injuries is yet to be known.
Police are investigating the matter.
