Police in Regional Division #6 are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis which was found on Thursday February 12, 2026 about 00:26hrs during a patrol exercise in the vicinity of Cumberland Koker, East Canje Berbice.
During the patrol, ranks observed two males acting in a suspicious manner in the vicinity of the Cumberland Koker, where a boat was docked. A search of the said boat, conducted in the presence of the two males, led to the discovery of eight (8) bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The two suspects – a 33-year-old construction worker of Cumberland, East Canje Berbice and a 34-year-old labourer of Gatetroy, Berbice River were arrested and escorted to the Reliance Police Station.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in their presence and amounted to 24.9 pounds before being lodged.
The boat was escorted to the Central Police Station and lodged for safekeeping.
Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
