Extradition proceedings involving Nazar Mohamed and his son Azruddin Mohamed were adjourned on Thursday following a late disclosure by the prosecution.
On Thursday, Magistrate Judy Latchman stated that there would be no further delays adding that “this is not a game of chess; there will be no jumping,” stressing the need to advance the matter.
During the hearing, lead prosecutor Kings’ Counsel Terrence Williams submitted a statement from Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister, Hugh Todd while indicating that the statement formed part of the prosecution’s disclosure.
On this note, Defence attorneys objected, requesting that the extradition proceedings be halted or adjourned to allow sufficient time to review and respond to the new material. They contended that they had not received the disclosure, which was reportedly emailed by Glenn Hanoman on Wednesday, January 8, at approximately 1:00h.
Upon questioning on the new document, Williams responded that there would be none beyond what had already been provided, adding that the prosecution would disclose any new material should the duty arise.
Nevertheless, the magistrate stated that the court would not permit any further disclosures and acknowledged that the defence must be afforded adequate time to obtain further instructions in light of the new information.
The matter is now set for February 5, 2026.
