Miner killed in freak accident at Mango Landing

An investigation has been launched into a mining incident which occurred on Tuesday at 13 Miles, Mango Landing, Essequibo River, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and claimed the life of 27-year-old Mark Anthony Williams.

Police stated that the deceased, a pit man from Morashee Village, Essequibo River was working in a mining pit along with other workers when heavy rain and high winds began.

During this time, a tree reportedly fell into the pit and struck Williams. As a result, he sustained injuries to his head and was pulled from the pit in an unconscious condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations are ongoing.
