Police in Regional Division # 4 ‘C’ are investigating an alleged discharging of a loaded firearm and possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence which occurred on Tuesday February 24, 2026 about 04:44hrs at Buxton Middle Walk, East Coast Demerara.
Preliminary investigations revealed that ranks on Mobile Patrol duty received information regarding a male who had allegedly discharged a firearm in the area. Acting on the information, police proceeded to a location in the vicinity of a wash bay, where they made contact with a 27-year-old miner of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara, who was seen entering a motor vehicle.
A search conducted on the male led to the discovery of a 9mm pistol concealed on his person. The firearm was fitted with a magazine containing seven (7) matching rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was asked if he was the holder of a firearm licence and indicated that he was not. He was arrested and escorted to the Vigilance Police Station.
The firearm and ammunition were lodged and the motor vehicle in which he was seen entering was also lodged pending investigation.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
