Min. Persaud meets with Simona Broomes on child abuse, domestic violence procedures

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, on Wednesday met with Simona Broomes of the Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) to discuss the procedures the Ministry follows in addressing matters related to child care and protection, as well as domestic violence.

During the meeting, Minister Persaud reaffirmed her commitment to maintaining an open-door policy ensuring that individuals and stakeholders can engage directly on issues affecting vulnerable populations.

Minister Persaud emphasised that advancing discussions and working collaboratively, with a strong focus on survivors’ well-being and best interests, is always important.

Broomes raised concerns about various social issues and committed to working closely with the Ministry whenever cases of child abuse or violence are brought to her attention. She agreed that critical information must be shared promptly with the Ministry to allow for swift action.

The meeting was cordial and concluded with a commitment to collaborate.

Minister Persaud was joined by Permanent Secretary, Dr. Erica Forte; Director of the Child Care and Protection Agency, Levine Gouveia; and Manager of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Policy Unit, Dr. Cona Husbands, among other senior officers within the Ministry.
