Ranks from the Port Kaituma Police Station conducted a ‘snap roadblock’ at Four Miles, Port Kaituma, North West District at approximately 17:30hrs yesterday (Tuesday). During this operation, Police stopped a black Toyota Fielder wagon with registration number PAE 4985.

The vehicle was being driven by James Rose, a 20-year-old male of mixed Guyanese ancestry, and had one passenger, Eon Daniels, a 35-year-old male Amerindian.

The ranks informed the occupants of the reason for the stop and asked if they had any illegal items in their possession. Both Rose and Daniels replied, “No.” After obtaining permission from the occupants, the ranks conducted a search of the vehicle.

During the search, one of the Police ranks discovered a speaker box inside the vehicle. Upon opening the box in the presence of the occupants, he found four parcels wrapped in Scotch tape, which contained seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The occupants were informed of the offence committed and were cautioned. Rose stated, “This is Bobby’s weed I’m carrying,” while Daniels said, “I’m just a porter… I don’t know anything about this weed.”

Both men were arrested and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where the suspected cannabis was weighed and amounted to 4.3 kilograms. The cannabis was subsequently sealed, marked, and lodged for further investigation.
