Two men appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weever at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Friday, slapped with the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking,
During the arraignment, Dyal Simon pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four (4) years imprisonment together with a fine of GYD$33,951,000.
On the other hand, Adonayi Hoyte pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail in the sum of GYD$200,000.
The charge stemmed from the discovery of some 22.934 kilograms of cocaine earlier this week.
The Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) had reported that on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, officers, acting on information received, conducted an operation in the vicinity of La Grange Public Road, West Bank Demerara, where they intercepted a motor vehicle.
A subsequent search of the motor vehicle revealed twenty (20) brick-like parcels containing a quantity of cocaine. The two men were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters, along with the narcotics
