The suspect in the killing of the Corentyne teen is expected to appear in a Berbice court today to face the capital charge.
This was disclosed by Acting Crime Chief Hugh Jessamy recently.
Jessamy told INews that investigators were not able to get a confession from the accused, but based on circumstantial evidence, he was charged.
The partly decomposed body of 13-year-old Akeem Grimmond, of No 61 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was discovered in a drain last Monday, behind a cemetery at Number 62 Village about 300 metres from his home. He had gone missing last Saturday.
After Grimmond went missing, the wife of an associate told the Police that her husband had reported to her that he had killed the teenager and had planned to purchase biscuits and coffee to give to his parents for a wake.
Following the revelation, Police arrested the suspect. However he has maintained his innocence.
