The Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, through its Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department, conducted an offshore inspection of the drilling unit ‘Noble Tom Madden’ on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The inspection was undertaken to assess the vessel’s compliance with Guyana’s Occupational Safety and Health Act, No. 32 of 1997 (Chapter 99:06), the International Organization for Standardization ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard and the Labour Laws of Guyana Act Chp 98:01.

This exercise forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing mandate to monitor and enforce workplace safety standards within Guyana’s rapidly expanding sectors.

The inspection team comprised OSH Officer Mr. Naipaul Persaud and Senior Labour Officer Ms. Denise Duncan. During the visit, the officers reviewed operational procedures, examined worksite conditions, and engaged directly with employees to verify adherence to established safety protocols and statutory requirements.

Meetings were held with personnel onboard to discuss workplace concerns, evaluate existing safety practices, and confirm compliance with both national legislation and international occupational safety and health standards. The Noble Tom Madden currently accommodates 189 personnel on board.

The Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning said it remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting safe, healthy, and equitable working environments throughout Guyana.

It added that particular emphasis continues to be placed on offshore operations as the country’s oil and gas industry advances and production activities expand.
