See full statement from the Guyana Police Force:

Police are investigating an alleged offence of discharging a loaded firearm with intent which occurred on Sunday February 22, 2026 about 17:00hrs at Robb Street, Bourda, committed on two male individuals, involving a 42-year-old businessman of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown (suspect).

Acting on information received, ranks went to a residence at Shell Road, Kitty, where contact was made with the suspect. A search was conducted on his person and one 9mm Taurus pistol along with two magazines and twenty (20) rounds of 9mm ammunition were found. A precept and firearm licence under the name of a Transportation Service were also produced.

The firearm licence was examined and corresponded with the firearm found in his possession; however, it was observed that it was not enforced for the year 2026.

A search was also conducted at the premises, where a motor vehicle which was allegedly used in the incident was found parked in the yard.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Kitty Police Station, where the firearm and ammunition were lodged along with the motor vehicle pending investigation.

He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
