Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar has participated in the “Spotlight on the Caribbean” panel at the Routes Americas 2026 Conference in Brazil, where he detailed Guyana’s aggressive infrastructure expansion.
The minister emphasised that modernised airports and enhanced service delivery are essential to supporting a diversified tourism product. This includes the government’s push for “mega-activities” across medical, sporting, and cultural tourism, which are currently attracting unprecedented global interest.
Minister Indar underscored that Guyana’s development remains focused on people and service excellence to meet rising international investment. He specifically highlighted the “Orange Economy”, noting that government investment in creative industries and cultural heritage is transforming Guyana into a vibrant hub for global artistic and intellectual exchange.
By fostering a world-class travel experience, he said Guyana aims to position itself as a premier destination for high-value global events and diverse traveler demographics.
Addressing regional fiscal policy, the minister firmly opposed the implementation of a flat aviation tax. He instead advocated for a nuanced model based on rigorous internal assessments involving all relevant stakeholders. He said this approach ensures that taxation remains equitable and does not hinder the accessibility of regional travel.
Minister Indar concluded that sustainable air connectivity is the backbone of Guyana’s economy, requiring collaborative, data-driven pathways to ensure long-term regional resilience and growth.
