Happy Acres man charged for dangerous driving, uninsured vehicle

Riyad Ahmad, a 23-year-old resident of Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara, who was arrested and charged with the offences of Dangerous Driving and Uninsured Motor Vehicle, appeared in court on Wednesday February 4, 2026, to answer the charges.

He was charged under Section 36(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02, for Dangerous Driving and Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicle Third Party Risk Act, Chapter 51:02 for Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

The accused appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Her Worship Magistrate Shivani Lalaram, where the charges were read to him. He pleaded not guilty to Dangerous Driving and guilty to Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

For the offence of Dangerous Driving, the defendant was granted bail in the sum of forty thousand dollars ($40,000 GYD).

For the offence of Uninsured Motor Vehicle, he was fined thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000 GYD), or three (3) weeks’ imprisonment in default.

The Dangerous Driving matter was adjourned to April 8, 2026.
