Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh has revealed that the gold mining industry recorded growth in 2025, with an estimated expansion of 11.6%.

He said total gold declarations amounted to 484,321 ounces.

According to Dr Singh, declarations from licenced dealers declined by 21.5% to 121,883 ounces. However, he said output from the lone large-scale operator increased by 15.5% to 167,005 ounces, while declarations to the Guyana Gold Board rose by 45.6% to 195,432 ounces.

Dr Singh said improved declarations were supported by stronger compliance and enforcement measures within the sector.

Meanwhile, significant growth was recorded in the bauxite mining industry, which expanded by an estimated 53.4% in 2025, with production reaching 3.9 million tonnes. The increase was led by the ramp-up in metallurgical grade bauxite production, particularly from the MAZ project in Region 10. Output from the larger producer grew by 138.4% to nearly 3.7 million tonnes.

Production from the smaller operator also increased, rising from 173,970 tonnes in 2024 to 253,875 tonnes in 2025.

The other mining subsector, which includes sand, stone, diamonds and manganese, expanded by an estimated 28.9% in 2025. Sand extraction grew by an estimated 20 percent, while stone declarations increased by 68.3%, reflecting demand from public and private sector construction activity.

Moreover, manganese production rose by an estimated 13.5% to 331,402 tonnes. These gains offset an estimated 24.2% decline in diamond declarations.
