The Office of the First Lady has been allocated $50 million in the 2026 national budget and plans to raise an additional $35 million through fundraising initiatives to support the implementation of several projects this year.
This was revealed by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance Gail Teixeira today during the Consideration of the Budget Estimates today.
Some of the initiatives that will be executed this year include the continuation of impactful programmes that were previously launched.
These include the Adopt an Orphanage’ initiative, which was launched in 2021, and pairs pairs corporate sponsors with homes to provide 12 months of financial support for utilities, repairs, and care for over 300 children.
Another key project is the Menstrual Hygiene Initiative, which was launched in 2021, and provides free sanitary pads to school-aged girls, aiming to end period poverty and reduce school absenteeism.
The First Lady’s Office signature National Beautification Project will also continue this year, targeting other areas across the country. The sum of $35 million has been allocated to support this initiative.
Funding will also go towards support for vulnerable communities.
Meanwhile, the First Lady’s Office will also host workshops on sexual and reproductive health.
