DPP orders inquest into death of pork-knocker at Barakat Landing

The Guyana Police Force is providing an update on the investigation into the alleged murder of Matthew Ramlochand, a 27-year-old pork-knocker of the Soesdyke–Linden Highway which occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at Barakat Landing, Cuyuni River.

Investigations had led to the arrest of a 38-year-old male gold miner of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden on Friday, January 16, 2026 in connection with the matter.

Following the completion of investigations, a file was prepared and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions’ Chambers for legal advice.

On Monday January 19, 2026, advice was received from the DPP’s Chambers directing that an inquest be conducted into the death.

Investigations continue.
