Police in Regional Division # 7 are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Jose Cloves Deas Francisco, a 55-year-old Brazilian national and miner, which occurred between 07:00hrs and 10:00hrs on Thursday January 1, 2026 at Waiamo Backdam, Cuyuni River.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that the deceased had been imbibing earlier and was last seen at about 07:00hrs on January 1, 2026 at his apartment. At about 10:00hrs on the same date, he was discovered motionless on the steps of the said apartment and a report was made to the police.
The body was examined and no marks of violence were observed. He was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
The body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
