Three armed and masked men on Friday hit a mining camp along the Cuyuni River in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) where they beat and rob several miners.
The incident occurred sometime between 08:30hrs and 11:00hrsbetween 08:30hrs and 11:00hrs on Friday, December 26, 2025.
Preliminary information indicates that three masked English, Portuguese and Spanish speaking males, dressed in camouflage and armed with firearms, arrived at the mining camp located at 68 Backdam, Cuyuni River, where they held the workers at gunpoint before escaping with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.
Among the victims was a 58-year-old Brazilian national and gold miner also of 68 Backdam.
During the ordeal, several persons including the 58-year-old received injuries.
A team of Police ranks is currently en route to the location to conduct further investigations and efforts are ongoing to locate the suspects.
