A 16-year-old driver is now dead while another is in critical condition after the motorcycle on which they were traveling crashed into a minibus along the Barnwell Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, on Monday evening.
The deceased teenager has been identified as Angel Manchan of Ruby Back Dam, East Bank Essequibo, while the critically injured teen was identified as a 19-year-old from Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Based on reports received, the minibus bearing registration number BAG 2484, driven by a 58-year-old male from Edinburgh, WCD, was proceeding along the Barnwell Public Road when the motorcycle, CR 487, driven by the now-deceased teen, collided with its right-side front.
As a result, the motorcyclist and pillion rider were flung into the air and landed in a yard on the southern side of the roadway, thus sustaining injuries to their bodies.
They were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where Manchan was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of the accident, both the motorcyclist and pillion rider were not wearing safety helmets.
The driver of the minibus was taken into custody as investigations continue.
