A 66-year-old woman is now living in fear after enduring a knifepoint confrontation during a home invasion, with the victim reporting that more than 48 hours after the incident, police had not visited the scene. The woman said the terrifying incident began sometime between 23:20h and 23:30h on Friday, as heavy rainfall battered the area and continued until about 01:45h on Saturday.
“He put a knife on my throat and tell me if I make a sound, he gon’ bore me,” she recalled.
According to the woman, her dogs had been barking persistently earlier in the night, prompting her to check the yard on two separate occasions. However, she saw no one and eventually returned to bed. But shortly after the invader entered her home and confronted her while she was in bed. She explained that the intruder, whose clothing was soaked, overpowered her, covering her mouth while holding a knife. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, she grabbed the weapon.
“I grab the hand with the knife and I tell him, ‘Don’t bore me,’” she said.
The man then demanded cash. “He tell me, ‘Give me all the money you got.’”
But during the struggle, the woman said she came face to face with her attacker and recognised him. “When I turn and see his face, I realise it is the same boy who did work for me,” she said. The suspect, she explained, had spent several weeks at her home earlier this year carrying out construction work.
Fearing for her life, she said she made a calculated decision to comply to survive. After he eventually left the house around 01:45h, the woman raised an alarm and contacted neighbours, who responded and assisted her before she made a report to the police. She said she was able to identify the suspect to the investigators and he was subsequently contacted by law enforcement.
However, the woman has raised serious concerns about the lack of a response from the Blairmont Police Station, noting that up to Sunday evening, more than 48 hours later, no officers had visited her home. “No police come here to check the house or see how he get in,” she said. It was only after the incident that she discovered how the intruder had gained access, observing that several window panes had been removed from the kitchen area, allowing entry into the house. The woman noted that the suspect was familiar with the layout of the home. The woman was taken for medical attention following the incident.
She said she spent several hours under observation. “I can’t sleep, I can’t eat… I still traumatised.”
