Police in Regional Division # 4 ‘C’ are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis which was found on Thursday, March 5, 2026 between 16:10hrs and 16:45hrs during a stop-and-search operation along Helena Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
During the operation, ranks stopped a black Fielder wagon motor car with one male occupant. A search was conducted on the vehicle, during which six bulky transparent plastic parcels containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found concealed in the engine compartment.
The occupant, a 32-year-old male of No. 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, was arrested and escorted to the Mahaica Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, which was weighed in his presence and amounted to 6.80 pounds before being lodged.
The suspect remains in police custody pending charges as investigations continue.
