Four persons have been remanded to prison in connection with the 68lbs cocaine bust at Montrose, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Monday.
On Wednesday, Andre Moonilall and Sherwin Laundry appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where both defendants pleaded not guilty to the offence of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. Bail was denied for both defendants, and they were remanded to prison until February 9, 2026.
Separately, Jermin Adams and Amanda Lam appeared before Magistrate Nurse, where both defendants pleaded not guilty to the offence of aiding in the trafficking of cocaine. Bail was denied for both defendants, and they too were remanded to prison until February 9, 2026.
The Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) said on the day in question, its officers, acting on information received, conducted an operation at Broad Street, Montrose, ECD, where they intercepted a motorcar.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed twenty- seven brick-like parcels, each containing a quantity of cocaine.
Moonilall, Adams, Laundry, and Lam were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters, along with the narcotics, which weighed 31.452 kilograms.
