Dead, Jeremiah Shameem, also known as "Nicholas,"

A 21-year-old welder met his demise on Friday after he was crushed by a motor lorry while riding his bicycle along the Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

The deceased has been identified as Jeremiah Shameem, also known as “Nicholas,” also of Bagotstown, EBD who celebrated his 21st birthday on December 31.

According to relatives, Shameem was on his way to his uncle’s house on the opposite side of the village, where he worked as a welder. Family members said he had been working alongside his uncle since the age of 17.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred at about 10: 30 a.m. as Shameem was waiting near an intersection to cross the roadway.

However, a motor lorry was reportedly attempting to negotiate the intersection when it came into contact with the cyclist, trapping him beneath the rear wheel.
Shameem was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the motor lorry was arrested, and he is assisting police with their investigations.
