The sum of $159.1 billion has been budgeted for housing development this year.

The funds will be utilised to continue the development of new and existing housing areas including Moleson Creek, Hogstye, Providence, Bartica, Wismar, and Kwakwani, among other areas.

It will also be expended on the development and allocation of house lots across all income categories. Further, it will facilitate the construction of 8,000 homes. Additionally, it will be utilised for the issuance of over 7,000 titles and transports.

These announcements were made by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh during his presentation of Budget 2026.

Dr Singh said a key objective for the sector this year would be the reduction of the current backlog of housing applications for all regions except for Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), where demand is significantly higher.
