[www.inewsguyana.com] – Seventeen – year -old Asraf Ali and his cousin 18 – year – old Abdul Razack today appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Magistrate Priya Beharry, charged with the indictable offence of murder.
The Court heard that on June 11, the duo murdered 17 – year – old Dhanraj Latchman in the Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo. The men were not represented and were remanded to prison until June 24.
Relatives of the accused who showed up at the Court were not in support of their actions and as such called for them to face the force of the law.
The mother of the now dead man told the media that she feels some form of satisfaction now that the men have appeared in Court.
The two were taken into police custody after they gave police conflicting reports on the whereabouts of Latchman. They had hired the teen from his Lusignan, East Coast Demerara home to go to Parika, where they strangled him to death with the seatbelt of his car. They then dumped his body and had made arrangements to sell the car.
The cousins allegedly confessed to the crime under intense interrogation.
