…Suspects escape after dumping vehicle in high-speed police chase
A hunt has been launched for three men who allegedly attempted to rob a Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo home on Monday evening, and left one victim nursing a chop wound to his head.
Injured is 40-year-old Dennis Emanuel.
Based on information received, the incident occurred at about 20:10h.
Emanuel, who is a vendor, told investigators that he was in his yard when he was pounced on by three men, one of whom appeared to be armed with a gun.
He recounted that the bandits took him into his house, where his wife and daughter were present, rounded the three up and placed them in a bedroom before demanding that they turn over their cash and valuables.
The vendor said that it was upon his cries of not having money that one of the suspects picked up a chopper- which he found in the house- and dealt Emanuel a blow to the head.
However, when the 40-year-old man began to scream, the bandits became visibly flustered and ran out of the house, where they joined a waiting motorcar.
The police were immediately contacted, and their quick response resulted in a high-speed chase.
According to Police “D” Division Commander, Rishi Das, the silver/grey Toyota Allion- bearing licence plates PNN 5369- that the bandits were travelling in became stuck in the vicinity of the Zeelugt Seadam.
At this point, the perpetrators reportedly exited the vehicle and successfully fled on foot.
A search was conducted on the vehicle and a paintball gun- suspected to be the weapon used to hold Emmanuel and his family at gunpoint- a mobile phone and a vehicle registration in the name of Gopaul Doodnauth of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara were found.
Das told INews that ranks are now making attempts to verify whether the vehicle used in the attempted robbery was stolen.
Investigations are continuing. (Ramona Luthi)
