[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana’s Youth Olympic team will wing out tomorrow for the global event scheduled for August 16-28 in Nanjing, China.
The four member squad of Olympian swimmer, Britany Van Lange; budding swimming star, Hannibal Gaskin; Caribbean table tennis champion, Chelsea Edghill and 400 metres South American Youth bronze medalist, Jason Yaw are all the top faces of Guyana’s sport that will represent the nation at the event with Dr. Karen Pilgrim as Chef de Mission.
Van Lange will take the pool in 50 metres and 100 metres free style while Gaskin will do the 100 metres freestyle and 50 metres butterfly.
Yaw will compete in the boy’s 400 metres while Edghill will be involved in intense singles competition at the event.
However, Dr Pilgrim confirmed that all systems are in place for the team to travel tomorrow and believes that the athletes can do Guyana proud.
“Chelsea I think is in shape she is not back in Guyana as yet, Yaw is a good athlete but it might be difficult for him because he is going without a coach and we might just have to get some assistance over there for him, Hannibal has not been too well but he should ready because he doesn’t have to swim right away but everything is in place and I know they are going to do their best,” Pilgrim told iNews Sport.
Meanwhile, the team is expected to depart from the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Headquarters tomorrow at 10:30hrs.
