[www.inewsguyana.com] – Following reports of gang related violence at the New Opportunity Corps, Minister with responsibility for youth, Dr. Frank Anthony noted that measures are being implemented to curb the issue before it escalates.
According to Dr. Anthony, there are several counselors, including one from Canada at the institution.
“We have a number of persons working there, counselors and so forth who would be able to talk to the young people there, get them to change whatever notion they have,” Dr. Anthony said in an invited comment.
He explained that the issue of gang violence is one which is new to the institution. The New Opportunity Corps is a corrective institution which falls under the purview of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Its primary function is to rehabilitate juvenile delinquents and reintegrate them into society.
