[www.inewsguyana.com] – Youth Football will take centre stage in the coming days as the Petra organization in collaboration with Milo stages their Under 20 Schools Football Championships.
The second edition of the tournament which was launched at Beepat General Store in Regent Street will feature 24 teams throughout Georgetown vying for top honors.
Petra Director Troy Mendonca said that the organization’s Primary interest is to resuscitate the sport at the youth level while attempting to add to what has already been learnt by some.
He noted that they are seeking to fill a void at the youth level of the sport and in turn nurture aid in the development of the sports future.
Also present at the ceremony on Friday, February 7, was Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry, Trevor Thomas who lauded the efforts of the two companies in generating an interest in a healthy lifestyle.
The Second edition of the tournament will feature teams such as New Campbellville Secondary, Richard Ishmael Secondary, Queens College, Charlestown Secondary and others.
Athletes will have an added benefit with five of them being eligible for scholarships to the University of Guyana. It will commence this Saturday.
