A young member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) died this morning (Tuesday) after the motor vehicle he was driving crashed into a parked truck. The accident occurred sometime after 08:00h in the vicinity of the Soesdyke Junction, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is 21-year-old Quee Brotherson of Section ‘C’ Sophia, Greater Georgetown. He was a soldier attached to the GDF’s Special Forces and stationed at Base Camp Stephenson in Timehri.
According to reports reaching INews, at the time of the accident the young man was driving an Army vehicle bearing registration number DFB 1454. Information received stated that Brotherson was heading to the Army base when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed head-on into a parked truck.
The young man was picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre in a critical condition. However, Brotherson succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.
In addition, there was another GDF rank in the vehicle at the time of the accident but he luckily escaped without any serious injuries.
After Brotherson succumbed, his body was taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour, where relatives, friends and colleagues of the 21-year-old gathered as the news of his death spread.
The 21-year-old Brotherson was described as a humbled and disciplined individual by both his father and a senior GDF rank under whom he worked.
The young man leaves to mourn his father, brothers and other relatives and friends.
