[www.inewsguyana.com] – Jason Yaw ran away with his first major title at the South American Youth Championship held over the weekend in Columbia.
During his preliminary round on Saturday, Yaw broke the boy’s 400 metres record running a fast time of 47.42s to erase the old record of 47.46s.
Yaw later returned same day to demolish the record again this time in a time of 46.79s while winning the gold for Guyana. The time is also Yaw’s personal best time over the 400 metres distance.
Meanwhile, running Brave’s Natricia Hooper bagged a silver medal in the girl’s 400 metres.
Hooper is expected to participate in the triple jump event while Yaw had to pull out of the 200 metres due to a slight hamstring strain.
