* sentenced to two years jail
A 25-year-old woman who was caught with cocaine inserted in her vagina appeared, today, at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where she was sentenced to two years in prison. She was also fined $30,000.
Gwendoline Pompea, a Surinamese national, pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of narcotic for the purpose of trafficking. Pompea was nabbed by law enforcement officials at the Ogle International Airport while she was heading on a flight bound to Barbados on September 21, 2015.
She was found with 1.047 kilogrammes of cocaine in her possession; some of which was inserted in her vagina while the rest were in the form of cocaine pellets that she had ingested.
While she was on remand at the prison in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Pompea managed to break out of the lockups but was apprehended at the Springlands Crossing as she was trying to make her way back to Suriname.
At that time she claimed that a prison warden helped her to escape the confines of the penitentiary. (Kristen Macklingam)
