Police are now hunting for the boyfriend of a 34-year-old woman who succumbed, on Sunday evening at the Georgetown Public Hospital, to injuries sustained as a result of domestic abuse.
The dead woman was identified as Gomatie Ramsingh, mother of two, of Number 58 Village, Corentyne.
Based on reports received, the woman had been hospitalized since Friday last, after her lover, known as “Curry Cow”, reportedly dealt her several lashes across her body with a metal rod, before pushing her down a flight of stairs.
Inews was informed that on the day in question, the duo were involved in a heated argument after Ramsingh allegedly disposed of her boyfriend’s stash of narcotics.
The man reportedly became more enraged after she refused to provide him with money to purchase more, and as such, physically abused her.
Neighbours reportedly rushed the woman to the Skeldon Hospital where she indicated to doctors that she sustained her injuries due to accidentally falling down the stairs.
However, eyewitnesses informed the medical officials that this was not true, and explained that her boyfriend has been abusive to the mother of two for a number of years.
Ramsingh was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Sunday, where she died shortly after.
The 34-year-old, who reportedly fractured her pelvis, succumbed to internal injuries.
