[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 44 year-old man from Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara accused of forgery was today placed before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to the offence.
It is alleged that the accused Shawn Williams of Lot 446 Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara on August 4, 2015 promised a land Vanessa Grant for $100,000.
Williams pleaded guilty with explanation.
According to the Prosecution, both the virtual complainant Grant and the defendant know each other.
The Prosecution further expressed that the defendant Williams knowing Grant wanted to have her own land and house, offered to sell her a piece of land which he did not own.
After constructing a house on the very land and living there for almost two and a half years, the virtual complainant Grant later found out that the land was owned by someone else.
A report was made to the Police, with Shawn Williams being arrested and charged.
Williams, in his defence, said he was not aware that the land belonged to someone else, since he was living at the same location for several years. He further explained that he is willing to repay all of the $100,000 back to Grant, but asked for some time to do so.
Consequently, Williams was placed on bail in the sum of $5,000 and was ordered to pay $25,000 toward Vanessa Grant before November 16, 2015.
He was also ordered to continue paying $25,000 as installments towards Grant until all payments are completed by February 23 next year.
