[www.inewsguyana.com] – A resident of Craig, East Bank Demerara was remanded to prison on Wednesday, April 29 on a drug trafficking charge by Magistrate Zameena Ali.
At the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, Lonette Robert pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Tuesday, April 28 at Ogle International Airport, East Coast Demerara she had in her possession 1.286 Kilogrammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The Court heard that Robert was an outgoing passenger to Barbados on a LIAT flight when a search was carried out on her person by ranks of the police narcotics branch and the prohibited substance was found strapped to her body.
Reports also indicate that the woman had a cocaine-filled condom in her vagina. She was then taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters for further investigations and the substance was weighed in her presence.
Bail was denied for Robert and the matter was adjourned to May 29.
