[www.inewsguyana.com] – Winners Connections made it two in a row by defeating Hi Stars 1-0 to win the final of the Demerara Football Association (UDFA) / GT Beer ‘Supa 16’ football tournament on Thursday at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
The game was a bit dead and uninspiring despite both teams having clear shots at goal but failing to score.
However, it was not until the 65th minute that the large crowd truly celebrated when Rawle Gittens rocked the back of the net from the penalty spot that was awarded by the referee.
The strike from Gittens would end up being the only goal of the game, rewarding Winners Connections with the top prize of $1M.
Meanwhile the earlier third place game saw traditional powerhouse Top XX trouncing Eagles United 3-0.
Shawn Daniels was the danger man, scoring in the 16th and 60th minutes to record a double while Terrence Aaron scored the third goal in the 29th minute to help Top XX cruise to an easy win.
