Over the past few days Guyana’s suicide rate has skyrocketed as a number of persons, particularly young people, have been ending their lives, leaving many to question what are the reasons for so many persons wanting to kill themselves.
The most recent case is that of 21 year-old Michael Stoby of Lot 659 Section D, South Sophia, Greater Georgetown who was discovered by his father hanging from the roof in his living room on Wednesday evening around 20:00h.
According to reports reaching Inews, Stoby’s relatives are still not certain as to what may have led the young man to take his own life. Stoby’s mother and sister both expressed complete disbelief that the young man was depressed to the point that he would commit suicide.
Family members said that the young father did not display any signs of suicidal tendencies even though he was going through a rough patch with his children’s mother.
The young man leaves to mourn his parents, sister, and two children.
Over the past few weeks, calls have been mounting from various segments of the society for the Government and other stakeholders to step up to the challenge and do more to tackle the rising cases of suicide gripping the country.
You are another fool! The international community took the scientific data on hand, did the analyses and pronounced Guyana the suicide capital of the world long before this new administration came to office. It is the ignorance that is displayed by the likes of yourself that is partially the cause of many of the societal ills that are talking place in the country.

Are you people kidding me about weak, selfish people who don’t care a dam about the people they hurt when they kill themselves? They don’t think about the brother, sister, mother and fathers that love them. Politics has nothing to do with weak, selfish people. I think one of the major problems facing the Guyanese society is the ‘have and the have nots’. You have more wealthy people in Guyana now than ever before.

Sad indeed…very sad for a nation to have this level of suicide and it seems to continue. Is there no hope for these people. No one seem to care anymore for the greatest resource for Nation –its people. It seems to me that people don’t see any hope and take the easy way out – suicide which is considered a Sin. There must be a collective approach to this and all Faiths — Government – Community leaders should be involved. I pray for the people…

Does anyone knows what Khemraj Ramjattan did with all the answers he had for suicides? Many PNC bloggers have been blaming it on rum drinking. Can any PNCites tell us whether Michael Stoby was a rum mouth (drunkard) or an alcoholic?

The Moral Fiber of Guyana has been destroyed. First a suicide of a pregnant 14 year old; Now a 21 year old a father of two? What has happened to parenting, ambition? Has living become so difficult, that the only alternative is to end it? May God have Mercy!!

Guyanese are not as dumb as the Americans thinks they are.
Most Guyanese knows America’s and PNC sordid past in Guyana when they combined to rule Guyanese in Guyana.
First of all let me say this- PNC never won an election ever in Guyana’s history.
Guyanese know that when PNC rule its the American Govt that installed PNC.
The young Guyanese are now coming to grips that even if they get an American green card and move on to America they could be deported for sneezing too hard in America.
The young Guyanese knows once America installed PNC to rule they know their fate and future sealed. The only thing they are left with is to take their own lives rather than live under American Installed Puppets PNC.
Most persons who commit suicide foresee no positive outcome for their problems (financial, medical, social, etc). We need to start looking at what avenues are available for our youths that will change their outlook on life.
Can they survive on a minimum wage? (Rent, Food, Medical and the social stigma that follows)
