[www.inewsguyana.com] – Despite the APNU+AFC government hinting that a date for the holding of Local Government Elections (LGE) could be announced during the 2015 Budget debates, Communities Minister Ronald Bulkan did not do so on Thursday evening.
Governance Minister, Raphael Trotman at a recent post Cabinet Press briefing had suggested that the date for local polls would be announced during the budget debates; however, when Bulkan made his presentation to the National Assembly, the speech was devoid of any date for LGE.
The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) held a statutory meeting on August 18 to determine whether local polls could be held in early December; however it is unknown what came out of that meeting.
As the time winded-down in Bulkan’s presentation, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) Parliamentarians heckled the Minister shouting for him to name a date for local government polls.
“We want local government elections now,” shouted former Local Government Minister under the PPP, Ganga Persaud.
Bulkan had promised that the elections would be held before Christmas. In a separate interview with iNews on Thursday evening, Bulkan indicated that though GECOM held the meeting to ratify its capability to hold elections this year, he has not been able to make contact with anyone from the elections Body for the last few days.
The elections were last held in Guyana in 1994 and in recent years several protests have been mounted and calls made for the previous administration to set a date for the elections.
These crooks (ppp) must have studied Hitlers big lie book. These are the same muther f_ _ __ _ _s who ignored LGE for 23 years and now screaming for a date. Get to hell out of here you bunch of loosers.
these people are funnier and more stupid than i thought in 21 years no lge election but now they shouting for it
Blank bullets.. all hush hush.. it was rightly said “a good life or a great lie”.. ” let’s see how the cookie crumbles”
Ganga Persaud: We wanted elections in 1997,2000,2003,2007,2010 and 2013. This new government is less than 100 days and they have made all the steps to hold the elections this year. Just cool it.
