[www.inewsguyana.com] – First Vice President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Anil Beharry is shocked at the Guyana Cricket Board’s media release dubbing their upcoming Independence T20 Tournament as unsanctioned.
Beharry told iNews that the BCB hosted the tournament twice without problems and he is confused as to what’s causing the difficulties now.
According to Beharry, he will try to get into contact with the Guyana Cricket Board’s President Drubahadur to see what can be done about the event which is expected to feature a number of local stars.
According to a release from the Governing body for the sport locally, the event has been deemed unsanctioned by the cricket board as it does not synchronize with either theirs or the Regional Body, the West Indies Cricket Board’s schedule.
Beharry is still of the view that there are still persons who are of a level head and will be able to recognize the importance of the tournament.
“I am confident that there are confident, mature, level headed people within the Guyana Cricket Board that will see the importance of the tournament not only for cricket but mostly for charity and to provide clean entertainment for families in Berbice,” Beharry said.
Set for the Albion Community Centre ground on May 25, the event is set to feature two semi-finals; Berbice ‘A’ taking on East Coast Jaguars from 11:00 hours and Berbice ‘B’ taking on Georgetown Cricket Association XI three from 14:00
The winners will battle in the final from 19:00 hours in the tournament which is the collaborative effort of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
