A 46-year-old man of West Coast Demerara (WCD) was yesterday nabbed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with several cocaine pellets in his stomach. He was an outgoing passenger, bound for the United States of America (US), who was seen acting in a suspicious manner by ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch.
The man was reportedly pulled out of the checking area and was questioned by the ranks but reportedly denied carrying any illegal substance. Searches were also conducted on his suitcases but the ranks came up empty handed.
The Police noted however, that the man has been on their radar for sometime now and suspected that he might have swallowed the illegal substance as he was perspiring profusely. He was taken to an X-ray department which detected 91 pellets in his stomach.
He is currently under Police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, excreting the pellets. It was disclosed that the man has so far excreted 61 of the 91 cocaine pellets which has amounted to 444 grams.
His transporter, a 35 year, taxi driver also of West Demerara was taken into custody.
