Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 66-year-old Hardat Dhaniram whose body was fished out of a canal on Monday.
The pensioner lived alone at Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
He was last seen alive at around 8:30hrs on Sunday by his daughter at her home, located in the same community.
Police, acting upon information received, went to a rice field located at Bella Dam, West Bank Demerara where they observed the victim floating motionless with face upwards in a southern canal in front of his residence.
He was clad in a gray jersey, black short pants and a pair of black boots.
His body was fished out of the canal and examined for any marks of violence, where it was observed that a small portion of skin was peeled off from his left side forehead.
The body was then escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where it was examined by a doctor.
A postmortem will be performed.
Investigations are ongoing.
